PhD Workshop in Aachen: With Data Analysis, Research Data Management, Diversity, and Project Management in Focus.
The SPP 100+ PhD Workshop in Aachen, held from April 28 to 30, 2025, brought together researchers for a series of technical presentations, soft skills training, and networking activities. The event began with a welcome session and talks on data collection and analysis in the context of human-building resilience (Marcel Schweiker), and the role of digital twins (Carl Richter). Later sessions included presentations on spatial linking of multimodal information (Jacob Beetz) and the use of BIM and real-time sensor data for dike monitoring (Fengyan Zhang). A guided tour of the Aachen Cathedral’s roof and group dinners provided social engagement. The second day featured discussions on FAIR data publication in NFDI4ING (Andreas Noback), a soft skills workshop on knowledge project management, and interactive sessions on diversity and unconscious bias in academia led by Ramona Liedtke. The workshop concluded on the third day with the continuation of the project management workshop, which included a friendly competition between research groups focused on working efficiently on small projects and optimizing project management strategies.
