INSTALLATION OF STRUCTURAL HEALTH MONITORING SYSTEM AT THE NIBELUNGEN BRIDGE WORMS FOR TRANSFER LEARNING OF STRUCTURAL DYNAMICS

Along with the TU Dresden, Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) has installed a Structural Health Monitoring system on the Nibelungen Bridge during July 2023 to extend the life span of the bridge. A new kind of digital acceleration sensors was installed on the bridge. The data from the sensors is currently analysed to assess the vehicle movement on the bridge using deep transfer learning approach, a method of artificial intelligence (AI).

Through the data obtained from the acceleration sensors, the vehicle movements on the bridge are classified to cars, trucks or heavy trucks passing on the bridge. Also, the number of vehicles passed on each day can be identified.
